IT Courses “Reassuringly Costly?
Funny lady Linda Smith used to say, “I love Waitrose – it’s that little bit more expensive. Sad but true, until the recent global financial panic, all of us allegedly believed the view that “Expensive equals quality, or You get what you pay for. The media re-enforced the view – imagine the juicy M&S ads, with “This is not ordinary food, this is…. At the other extreme, the stores cheap ranges were devoured by ultra thrifty shoppers but most of us didn’t give a second glance. In IT courses, the high end “luxury market (surely they’re superior - if you have the funds - why else would these companies be market leaders?) acknowledged that colleges exist who’ll do it less expensively but beware, it won’t be as good. Then a short time passes, the economy is in tatters, and all at once value becomes our mantra! Many householders limit their trips to Waitrose, and instead discover the delights of Aldi and Lidl. Stockbrokers and their fat cat payouts are the curse of the devil, and we all look more closely at our spending habits. Maybe we’ve been taken in by paying higher prices? Dig a little further into the country’s IT training market, and there’s a lot to discover. Just because industry’s crying out for more skilled IT professionals, is it essential to fork out 5k–8k for training, or are these prices outdated? It’s a bit ironic that many IT trainers aren’t using fully interactive methods - supplying students with pen and paper methods. Should we really have to wade through books when any IT material can be downloaded onto discs? Is it necessary to drive to training centres, spending more money for our accommodation to do what we could do at home? 24/7 Interactive support should be available for me anywhere – at my convenience, but not at my cost. With newer, slicker training options on offer at a fraction of the cost of these prices, perhaps we should wake up to the fact that when it comes to electronic learning, value means lower cost for higher quality. Things are changing in Computer training – in supermarket terms, it’s slashed prices for best ever products. In this changing world of today, that’s welcome news.
